- Dufaux Racing Car
Switzerland 1905
Switzerland's first racing car
The first racing car to be built in Switzerland was originally registered for the Gordon Bennett Cup. The vehicle never made it to the start because it was allegedly sabotaged.
Missed opportunity
The Dufaux car factory in Geneva, the Swiss capital, existed only until 1907. Perhaps things could have turned out differently; It is said that, in 1905, the two young brothers, Charles and Frédéric Dufaux were invited by a certain J.P. Morgan from New York to attend a meeting, which the brothers for lack of time (and probably through ignorance about the American banker) declined.
Donation to the Verkehrshaus museum
On 19 October 1945, 14 years before the opening of the Verkehrshaus museum, the 1905 racing car came into the collection of the association "Verkehrshaus der Schweiz" in Zurich as a donation from the joint heir Frédéric Dufaux.
